HUNGER AWARENESS: AWARENESS WEEK: HEALTH,RELATIONSHIPS &HAIR.
HEALTH:In 2022, 12.8% of US households, or 44.2 million people, experienced food insecurity, which means they were unable or uncertain of getting enough food to meet their needs. This is up from 10.2% in 2021, and includes 3.3 million more households with children. 5.1% of households experienced very low food security, a more severe form of food insecurity. Increasing poor health amongst all ages and demographics.
RELATIONSHIPS:Hunger can impact relationships in a number of ways, including:
Anger
A study of married couples found that anger towards spouses was greater when glucose levels were lowest, which is when people feel hungriest. This is because hunger affects mood centers in the brain that are associated with anger, sadness, tension, and low self-esteem. Hunger can also lead to irritability, and the combination of hunger and anger can be a complicated emotional response that involves biology, personality, and environmental cues. However, context and self-awareness can determine if hunger will contribute to negative emotions.
Emotional hunger
Emotional hunger is a strong emotional need that can be mistaken for love because it involves longing and intensity. However, people who feel emotional hunger may feel drained of energy instead of nurtured, and may latch onto a romantic partner or child to meet this need.
Childhood hunger
Hunger in childhood can impact a child's ability to form friendships, interact with friends, and maintain self-control. Longitudinal data suggests that children's learning outcomes also suffer when they regularly experience hunger.
HAIR: Hair needs a variety of nutrients to stay healthy and strong, including protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. A lack of nutrients can cause hair to become dry, brittle, and weak, and may even lead to hair loss or restricted growth. Correcting a nutrient deficiency can help treat hair loss and promote growth.
