Many of us have been to protests which are energetic, empowering and attract important attention from passers-by and the media. We've also been to protests which felt disorganized and lackluster. We think it's critical that our protests support us to continue and expand this critical work – which means that they're energetic and spirited. Lively chants, singing, and marching generate energy and express our commitment to a world of justice and peace for all beings.

As the Institute for Policy Studies' John Feffer wrote three years ago, “Vladimir Putin has a very clear strategy for ending his war in Ukraine. He intends to wipe the country off the map. Initially, he’d hoped to do so by seizing Kyiv, replacing the government, and absorbing as much of Ukrainian territory into Russia as he thought feasible.” Fortunately, the Ukrainian resistance was much more powerful than he expected, but Trump's current machinations threaten to help Putin carry out many of his goals.

Tomorrow is March 22nd World Water Day!

The theme of World Water Day 2025 is ‘Glacier Preservation’.

Glaciers are critical to life – their meltwater is essential for drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production and healthy ecosystems.

Rapidly melting glaciers are causing uncertainty to water flows, with profound impacts on people and the planet.

Global reductions in carbon emissions and local strategies to adapt to shrinking glaciers are essential.

This World Water Day, we must work together to put glacier preservation at the core of our plans to tackle climate change and the global water crisis.

Elon Musk left South Africa in 1989. It was becoming clear that the apartheid system of white supremacy could not continue; the manner of its dissolution remained uncertain...He did not stay to see the South Africa I was born into. A difficult place. An unequal place. A land riven by historical injustice, bearing slow-healing wounds and jagged scars...

It's very heartening to see so many good ideas for action being shared in coffee houses, at organizing meetings, on social media and other online platforms. There is a particular call for a mass sending of postcards this coming Saturday, March 15, but if you can't send them by then, they should be receiving our ire and disgust every day.

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the historic filing of the Onondaga Land Rights Action.

Sadly, but not unexpectedly, the federal courts rejected the Onondaga's case.

But, just last year the Onondaga celebrated the return of 1,000 acres of land just south of their current 7500 acre territory.

Tonight several hundred people will gather to celebrate and learn about the work of the past and the path to a sustainable and just future for all in our region. If you're in Central New York, don't miss it!
