After she’s dumped by her serial killer boyfriend for not being “hot enough”, Sheryl, a beauty-obsessed woman, goes on a murderous, blood-soaked quest to create the perfect face, while simultaneously navigating her new relationship with the cop investigating the murders. In the end, she must try to learn to accept herself as she is... even if that means she is a looks-obsessed, psycho killer. SHERYL is a high-concept, dark comedy feature film with a timeless message told through a modern lens. Comparable to AMERICAN PSYCHO meets BARBIE, this is an R-rated film that will appeal to fans of dark comedy, character studies, action, revenge fantasies, satire and more. The over-the-top action and thriller tropes will attract fans of all genders, while the strong female lead will especially appeal to a female audience. Rarely do we get to see a woman act with the same amount of force as her male counterparts. In fact, have we ever seen such a fun and dangerous female slasher character? Sheryl consistently encounters challenges and issues that women today regularly face, and, yet she is allowed to engage in a revenge fantasy that some women may occasionally wish they could perform. Humorous situations allow some of the tension to be relieved, just in time for more thrills to take place. The themes of SHERYL take careful aim at today's image-obsessed, social media culture. While SHERYL is told through a lens filled with both thrills and comedy, the issues are very real: Self-love, acceptance, societal pressure. These are issues that we all, but especially women, face every day. A movie that is filled with suspense, action, big laughs, and real areas for conversation and self-reflection, this film represents the type of movie that I would spend my last ten dollars and stand in line in the rain to see.
