For maker Monday this week I have a special project that I’ve been working on to share with you. I played my first round of disc golf last year with a large group of axe throwers after a tournament and I was immediately hooked. Now I have started custom dying discs and these will be available at my table at WAKTC. I have various popular molds from MVP, Discraft, and Innova as well as mini markers. Stop by my table this weekend to check out some axes, discs, and apparel.

Here’s a look at a big axe that will be available at my table at . The Pro-line Colossus head is hung on a 25” handle made with a hickory core, yellow heart sides and inlays of wenge, walnut, and blue veneers. Total weight is just over 3lbs. Make sure to check this one out next week in Tulsa.

This Plumb National will be available at WAKTC. The head has been profiled and semi polished and it’s hung on a 19” handle made with wenge, purpleheart, and lime green veneer.

Here is a look at the first axe that will be available at WAKTC. This 19” recurve Ragnar is made with an ash and veneer core and the sides are zebrawood, purpleheart, and black palm. This is one good looking axe and with a total weight of 2lbs it throws amazing too. Make sure to stop by my table in Tulsa to check this one out.

This red, white, and blue Craftsman build was delivered to the customer yesterday so I can finally share the pictures here. The handle was made with a tapered maple core with red, white, and blue maple veneers creating a horizontal and vertical pattern. The craftsman head got profiled and blued and it’s held on by a really cool matching wedge. I also made a custom red leather sheath to protect it. I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out and the customer loves it.

Excited to finally share this custom craftsman hatchet that I’ve been working on. The head was profiled, weight reduced and blued. The 19” handle is made with a beech core, padauk and wenge with a silver epoxy inlay. It also got a matching wedge made of padauk and wenge. I’m super happy with how this axe turned out and I can’t wait to see what the customer can do with it.

For this weeks makers Monday post I’d like to spotlight another maker, Jessica Renner. I asked her to do custom laser grips on a set of Blackhawks for me and she knocked it out of the park. My first car was a 1990 Ford Bronco and currently I have 2 90s Broncos. I asked her to incorporate a Bronco, mountains and tire tracks and this is what she came up with and amazingly she drew it all by hand. Not only is the design amazing, but it’s etched into the metal to break up the smooth surface of the knives and give it a better grip. If you want an awesome custom set of knives send her a message. I can’t wait to profile this set and start throwing them!

The new Ragnar head is hung on a 17.5” handle made with black Limba and green and black veneer on an ash core. The head weight is 1lb-7oz and total weight is 1lb-15oz. It comes with a pink WATL sheath. I won’t be at the pro-am, so message me if you want to scoop this one up, it won’t last long.

This Plumb victory got finished last week and is on its way to its new home at Gorilla Boy Sports. The Plumb victory head got profiled and bananas etched on the poll. The handle was made with a tapered ash core and 7 layers of veneers from yellow to dark green. I also made an awesome custom matching wedge to hold it all tight and a hand-dyed yellow leather sheath with green stitching.

For I can finally share this axe that I’ve been working on for a little while. Usually I’ll send build pictures along the way to customers, but this axe was for Anthony Ramirez, who already has a few from me, so I kept him in the dark and he never got to see it until he opened the box. He told me that he wanted an Elvis themed axe with black and gold and sent me the “Taking care of business” logo that he wanted on the head and the lightning bolt in the handle. I started thinking about how I was going to do this black and gold Elvis themed axe and then it hit me, use real gold. So that was the surprise I didn’t want the customer to know while I was working on his axe, all the gold in the head and handle is real 24k. The axe turned out amazing. I used the darkest Wenge I had for the handle and blued the king of diamonds head so the gold really stands out. I also made a custom sheath to protect the gold from wear and tear that covers the entire head and I fur lined the inside for even more protection. I’m super happy with how this axe turned out and the customer was too and now I can finally share it with all of you.

Just finished the awesome axe up last week and had to show it off. A customer asked me to make an axe using one of her husbands old composite hockey sticks for his birthday. I said no problem, even though I had no idea how I was going to make it work. A wood hockey stick would have been no problem, but a hollow composite presented some challenges. Can’t use standard wood glue, the carbon fiber is a nightmare on blades to cut, the dimensions of the hockey stick aren’t the same as an axe handle, and the outside of the hockey stick had a very grippy texture, great for hockey, not so much for throwing. It took some time to figure out how to tackle this project, but I got it done just in time for his birthday and this is what I came up with.

The head is a gen 2 commander on a 17” dyed hickory handle. I cut 2 different sections out of the hockey stick and inlayed them in epoxy on the sides. I think it turned out great! The customer was happy and her husband loves it.
