In light of the US tariffs triggering today, I wanted to take a moment to restate our values at Foxwood Gifts.

We are a family business in that we are owned and operated by Mom (Ruth), but with logistical support from Dad (Adam). I couldn't do this without my family's support, so it's as much their business as mine, so I often use the 'we' on social media posts for just that reason. You'll often see our two little ones at local markets, visiting Mom, shopping other vendors, and Dad helping to set up or troubleshoot technical issues.

The bulk of my products are made from wood, and most products are made from Cherry, Walnut and Maple, all harvested within Canada. This is important to us, and has been the same from the beginning. A few speciality earrings are made from Koa and Zebrawood which come from places like Hawaii and Africa and just can't be grown here, but the other 98% of my products are harvested using sustainble forestry in Ontario and Quebec.

The majority of any metal hardware used in my earrings is sourced from a maker in Montreal.

All of my items are made right here, by me, in Windsor, Ontario.

Something else you might know about our family is that I (Ruth) am a dual citizen of both the US and Canada, having been in Canada for 8 years now. I just voted, proudly, in my first Canadian election last week. I love both of my countries, but what has been happening in the US recently is shameful and heartbreaking. We strongly support buying Canadian, but even better, buying local. As a family, we're going to make more of an effort than ever before to buying local to support our local businesses.

Over half of my business is to the US, but I'm proud to serve both countries with handmade goods and b2b branding and supplies for businesses. Tariffs will affect that greatly. If there is anything that I can do as a business to assist your business or you personally, please reach out. We believe in people, we believe in local, and we strongly believe that to succeed, it will need to be together.

One of the more difficult parts of closing our Wyandotte space is losing our employee Haylee. Haylee is a 4th year art student at UofW and has experience in a kitchen as well as art studio. She would ideally love to work for another small business, especially if it has any ties to the art world or creating. If you know of a part time position open that she might qualify for, please let us know!

FedEx is suspending pickups and UPS is now temporarily suspending all services with 3rd parties that offer discounted pricing for their customers. Purolator as well. This will literally be the death of small businesses that rely on Christmas orders to survive the year, this isn't hyperbole. Come on, Canada Post. We need some resolution here!
