The General Bean

The General Bean Local Handcrafted Wool goods, needle felting supplies and classes. We handcraft eco friendly products, needle felting kits from local wool.

We also sell needle felting supplies and teach Zoom Needle Felting Classes. The General Bean is the brain child of Fiber Artist Jamie Lynn Bowen and her husband, artist and author, M. Scott Ault- with a combined vision towards environmentalism, sustainability, and local economic growth realized through original handcrafted wool goods, supplies and teaching. Our fiber is sourced, mostly, from a family run mill just outside of Calgary and we handcraft all our goods in Calgary AB.

The General Bean wool is all sourced from a small Canadian mill who uses local wool from Western Canada. They process the wool with organic soaps, minimally processing it so there are no harsh chemicals and bleaches used. All of the wool is processed on vintage equipment from the 1800’s!

Blank Canvas carries 36 colours plus starter packs for those looking to try out needle felting for the first time.

This is how I roll, one person mentioned needle felting so I googled it…it looks so neat and there’s so many cute things you can do, I went on a Pinterest rabbit trail and watched a bunch of videos and now I carry needle felting kits, the general bean is a Canadian company based out of Thornhill BC and supports Canadian farmers! 💜

Wool dryer balls, merino knitwear and more! The General Bean is the brain child of Fiber Artist Jamie Lynn Bowen and her husband, artist and author, M. Scott Ault- with a combined vision towards environmentalism, sustainability, and local economic growth realized through original hand crafted lifestyle accessories for the whole family. Our fiber is sourced, mostly, from a small mill just outside of Calgary providing both comfortable wearable wool as well as long lasting fiber from which they spin their awesome dryer balls~ a fun and funky item that looks great with hand felted pattern embellishments or plain, in various colours and is truly a Canadian product from start to finish.
