Your trip is booked and the departure date is right around the corner! While you're excited to get away, the dreaded packing is something you just keep putting off.

Next thing you know, it's the day before and you end up stuffing your suitcase full of anything and everything you think you might need.

You lug the giant, heavy suitcase around the airport. You rifle through the mounds of clothes throughout the week...and xome the end of the trip, you find that you've only worn a very small handful of items that you packed.

But guess what, there's a much better way to effectively pack your suitcase for your trip. It's not only easier beforehand, but it also reduces stress and chaos during your trip.

The Countdown Packing Method ensures you have a wide variety of outfits to mix & match without getting bored of your clothes, and it can be tailored to suit you and your trip!

• Plan ahead! Consider what you'll be doing and plan the outfits that you'll wear.

• Mix & Match! Create a capsule wardrobe for your trip- make sure that each item can be worn with all, or most, of the other items you're taking.

• Accessories count! Jewelry and accessories take up little room but do a lot to change and complete an outfit. Don't go overboard though- a couple options is great.

• Packing cubes help ensure that you don't take too much and keeps everything organized.

If you have any packing questions, just ask below - I'd love to help!

In Calgary and need some guidance on how to put together the perfect packing list for your upcoming trip? We can spend an hour together and get it done!

Be sure to save this Packing 101 post so that you can find these packing tips for travel the next time you're jet-setting away!

Sure, blazers are a wardrobe staple, but they're not the ONLY option for great outfit toppers.

Hold on, maybe you're thinking :
"But I love blazers!" or "I know how to make a great outfit with a blazer!" or "Blazers are my comfort zone!"

First things first - keep rocking the blazer! As a Personal Stylist, there's nothing better that a great blazer and well-tailored suiting.

However, there are other options that will give you so much variety in your day to day looks, whether it's for work or everyday casual :

• Cool, structured cardigan topper
• Vest topper : either knit or suited
• Collared shirts with a mid-weight material make a great topper
• Lightweight jacket toppers that pack all-day comfort

Here's the good news!

To make it super easy, I've rounded up my Top Fall Toppers for you in my latest blog post! 🙌🏼
Complete with styling tips, how to wear them, and direct links so that you can check them all out!

*Not sure what a "topper" is? Don't worry, I explain that in the post too!

If you want to see my Favorite Toppers For Fall from some of my favorite local boutiques and online stores, comment below and I'll send you a message with a link to the post!

Have a beautiful day friends!

Picture this : you're scrolling Insta and someone shares a great jacket, pair of pants, or maybe some amazing shoes...and you think "Oooo! I looove that!"

Next thing you know, you've sent them a message asking where it's from and you jump in the car to head to the store.

But wait! What if you slowed down the urge to get something new and fun and amazing?

I know that can sound like a buzz-kill, but as a Personal Stylist, I see this all the time with my clients - closets full of un-worn clothes, and many of those items are almost exact duplicates (we can talk about buying the same thing in 6 colours later).

Here's how to slow down the impulse "I love it!" buy and make sure you're spending your time and money on items that you'll actually love for the long-haul :

• "Do I really love it?" - try it on and take the time to really look at the item. Is the fit bang-on? Is it comfortable - can you put it on and forget about it? Do you feel amazing in it?
If you don't love it, then leave it! There's no space in your closet for anything that's just "ok".

• "Does it work with my wardrobe?" - To have a wardrobe that's versatile and functional, you need to have items that work together. Your wardrobe is a team working together for your greater good!

• "Do I already own this?" - If you already own something similar, do you really need another? If the item you already have is past its prime, then maybe a replacement is needed. But don't fill your closet with all the same things- that takes the joy and excitement away.

These style tips are things that I use for myself and with my clients, and they never steer me wrong!

Take the time to ask yourself these questions when you go shopping, and you'll be on your way to having an intentional wardrobe that Works For You!

What is your greatest struggle when shopping?

Imagine this : wearing a new outfit everyday, no stress or confusion in the mornings, and falling in love with your wardrobe.

All this, without spending a dime!

Shop Your Closet! Here's how :

1. Get Organized : This means you can quickly find exactly what you're looking for.
Put your clothes into categories - short sleeve tees, tanks & camis, cardigans, dresses, skirts, etc.
Within the categories, organize into sub-categories of casual and dressy, and then by colour.

2. Switcheroo : Turn all of your hangers around so that they're facing backwards on the bar. When you wear something and know you like it, turn the hanger back around.
This is also a great visual to show what items you aren't wearing.

3. Try Something New : Make a commitment to yourself that for one week you will wear a combo that you've never worn. Trying new combinations keeps your style fresh and helps you utilize everything that you have!
Not sure what to wear? Look at the hangers that are facing backwards, and try one or two of those!

4. Plan Ahead : To keep your mornings stress-free, plan out your entire outfit the night before. Be sure to include footwear, accessories and outerwear to take all the guesswork out of it!

5. Document: Start an Outfits folder in your phone, and every time you put together an outfit that you like, snap a quick picture and save it in that folder.
Any time you need an outfit idea, just check this Outfit folder- it's your own personal catalog!

When you Shop Your Closet you learn to fully utilize everything that you have, you see the potential & versatility that is already there, and you try new outfit combinations and step outside of the same old looks.

Drop an emoji in the comments to tell me how you feel about Shopping Your Closet!

(And of course if you have any questions, just ask away!)

Real life footage seeing you come out of the change room with a smile on your face (yes, a great, big smile!!) and feeling absolutely incredible in the outfits that I custom selected just.for.you.

But wait, there's more!

The same happy dance returns when I get an email from you three weeks later telling me that you now look forward to getting dressed every day, you have been getting a ton of compliments, and you love that you now know what to do with all those items in your closet! 🤗

👉🏼 No more confusion or frustration when getting dressed.
👉🏼 No more uncertainty about what does and doesn't work.
👉🏼 No more feeling "meh" in your clothes (and being ok with it).

Let's get excited about your style, your body and your everyday together!

If you haven't worked with a Stylist before, what questions do you have about the process or the experience?

Coming atcha with chapter 2 of "What's in your closet?"

These are items that I find in *many* clients' closets during a Wardrobe Edit, so let's get to today's list :

• Clothes from high school

• Scarves (so.many.scarves.)

• Belt bags. Now hear me out- there is a time and a place for your Lulu Belt Bag. But if this is your "nice" or "going out" bag...we need to talk.

• Hand me downs from your mom (hi mom 👋🏼), mother-in-law, or auntie. I'm sorry, but if they don't want it, you don't want it.

• Crocs. period.

• Underwear with holes (and not the *fundie* kind of holes)

• Items from any of those old favourite and nostalgic stores from the 90's

How many of these items are currently in your closet? (No shame, and definitely no judgement here!)

If you do have some of those items, it could be time to give your wardrobe some love, attention and, most importantly, some intention.

It's time for a good old closet clean-out. A purge. A Wardrobe Edit. Or some spring cleaning. 🧼

Sometimes we all need some help determining what items we should keep and what should go (if it were easy, you wouldn't still have them, am I right?).

Whether you're in Calgary or far away, I am here for you!

What's in your closet? Here's a handful of oldies...but maybe not goodies.

While I am the biggest cheerleader for wearing what you love and feel amazing in, I have never had a client that has wanted to feel outdated.

If you want a wardrobe that is current (as in from the last 3-5 years), take a look at your closet. If you have any of these items (or multiples), it may be time to do something :

• Cold shoulder tops
• Zipper accents
• Suede booties with wood block heel
• Gladiator sandals
• Camouflage anything
• Faux layered tent tops
• A Poncho
• Stella and Dot circa 2007-2015

Raise a hand if you currently own any of these! 🙋🏼‍♀️

If you do, don't worry- it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to get rid of them.
It just means that your wardrobe may need some love and attention so that it's doing what you want it to do for you.

If you want more details on how to get there, comment with the word "info" and I'll send you some options.

I’ve been up to something...quietly crafting, curating, and creating.

This project is born from style, tried & truestrategy, and a sprinkle of secret sauce is coming your way, and it's completely designed with YOU in mind!

I've poured my heart, soul, and style savvy into this. And let me tell you, it's personal, powerful, and soon to be yours!

In my head I'm thinking "let's start a revolution!" (Let's see if anyone can name the movie that this quote is from?)

Are you ready for a change? A style revolution? Your journey awaits and the start is just around the corner!

10/23/2023

I hear it all the time "I'm bored with my style" which is quickly followed by "I wear the same things all the time".

Me? I am a jeans kinda girl- I love jeans and wear them 90% of the time (or more, if I'm truly honest).

It's not that I don't own pants, I just don't think about wearing them.
My brain is trained to decide "I'll wear jeans today." I know they fit, I know what to wear them with and I know I feel good in them.

Inspired by a client, I decided to challenge myself to get out of my same-old, same-old rut and not wear jeans for 5 days, and I invite you to join me on the journey.

Here's the plan :

1. Recognize what your easy go-to is.
It might be leggings, or you never wear jewelry or accessories, or maybe it's doing your hair differently...
Whatever your same-old is, take notice, because by simply changing it up, your style will immediately feel new and fresh!

2. Take a look at what you have. In my Personal Styling experience, you likely have the tools and options, you just don't utilize them.
Look at what you have and pull them out.

This helps you plan ahead so that come morning, you aren't left wondering what you're going to do. And by pulling the items out and into the open, you're making it quick and easy to grab them.

3. Commit to yourself that you will do this for just 5 days. (It's just 5 days!!)

4. Put it out there : share in the comments on this post what you'd like to try. This sets the intention and solidifies it in your heart and mind that you're going to do this!

It also encourages others to give it a shot, and helps them see that they're not alone. This place is about community!

5. I would love to be your cheerleader! Share a photo each day and tag me in it so that I can cheer you on!

This is about you and helping yourself get out of your own way.

When you start to see yourself looking better, you begin to feel better, and when you feel better, you think better.
It all starts here, with this Simple Style Refresh!

"You only have 18 summers with them..." I'm going to hand whoever made that up a big ol' NOPE card (anyone else play the Exploding Kittens card game?)

1. First of all, don't you think that parents get enough pressure and guilt put on them to "make the most of it" already?!

2. I don't know about you, but the more I try to make "the best summer ever" the more stressed out I feel and the more things go wrong.

3. None of us are promised any given number. (That's heavy, but true.)

4. Some of the best moments come in the quiet and stillness. This is true of me with my kids, but also true when I'm with my parents, and I've had 40 summers with them!

5. Personally I love my kids getting older and every summer is better than the last. And when I think about my relationships with my mom and dad, I can see how it's changed and improved since I was 18 (thanks teenage attitude).

So while I've been thinking about that dreaded phrase the past few weeks, here's what I've realized :
Don't count down to 18.

Count up!

Sorry not sorry (are we still saying that??)...

If you're over the age of 12, get rid of all the underwear, socks, and pajamas with holes!

There's no excuse!! 🙅🏼‍♀️ ...but if you think you have a liable reason (maybe they're your "lucky un**es" and only good things happen...?), let me know and we'll consider.

A basic t-shirt is more than just a t-shirt! This wardrobe essential is one of those hardworking pieces that you can do anything with...but only if you're doing it right!

Necklines :
• V-necks are always flattering, and go for the lowest v that you're comfortable with to open up the look and bring they attention to your face.
💡 V-necks are great for all bust sizes!
• Square Necklines are a fresh & modern look that can amplify the chest & draws attention to the shoulders.
• Wide/boatnecks widen the shoulders.
• Crew-necklines are very common and can come in different styles- some cut quite close to the neck and some lower. Higher crews (especially if it's a slim/tight fitting tee) tends to amplify the shoulders & chest.

Sleeves :
• Cap sleeves broaden the shoulder and draws the eye up.
• 2-3" below the shoulder is the most common and universally flattering.
• Longer sleeves (hitting just above the elbow) are gaining popularity and are great for those looking for more arm coverage.
💡 Look where your sleeves hits you - the length creates a line across your body and draws attention to that area.

Fit :
• From loose to tight, go with what feels best and what puts a little pep in your step!

💡 Material is key! Cotton is generally fine, but not always as versatile. I prefer to look for fabrics that drape nicely, or look for a bit thicker or double-lined material. Materials like Tencel, modal or blends are great!

By paying attention to what different necklines and sleeves do for you, you'll be able to see what really works best for your body!

Do this : Try on different t-shirt styles and snap a quick mirror photo. You'll get a different perspective in a photo and be able to really compare different styles!

Belts 101 :
Belts are a great fashion accessory that instantly pulls any outfit together and creates a more polished, styled look.

Here's how to wear a belt *and* create a great outfit:

• For a cohesive & universally flattering look, the colour of the belt should blend with the colours of your outfit. (Plus it will make you look taller!)

• Don't wear competing accessories - When wearing a belt, don't overdo it with statement jewelry.

• Your belt does not (I repeat, does not!) have to match your shoes or your bag.

• Belts work best when your top is tucked in (I like a full tuck best), or if the length of the top hits right at or above your waistband.

• OR! If you're wearing a dress, longer blazer or cardigan, or a top that is long and loose, use a belt on top to cinch it in and give your body shape.

If you love the belt look, give it a try! There really aren't any negatives to what a belt can do!

Be sure to like & save this so that you can easily find these tips and outfit ideas!

Steal my strategy for creating a wardrobe that you love!

Wardrobe Edits are one of the most popular sessions that I do with clients. They're amazing- effective, fun and like a cheap form of therapy.

BUT not everyone can (or wants to) do it.

To make this super simple & accessible to everyone, I put together my Wardrobe Edit process in an easy self-guided online course so that you (no matter where you live, what your schedule looks like, or your budget) can have the closet & wardrobe that you can get excited about!

Getting your closet in order is the first, and most important, step to getting your style to a place that you love.

Here's what the course includes :

• How to effectively organize your closet in a system that is proven to work.

• You'll learn how to maximize your clothes and how to create different outfits.

• Your daily getting-ready process will become quick, easy and enjoyable! (Sounds crazy, but it's true!)

• Access to my coveted exclusive Client Perks program.

• You'll gain the confidence and knowledge that you need to make those tough decisions about what items should stay in your closet.

• We'll look at everything- from clothing, to footwear and outerwear, your ignored socks, underwear & pj drawers, and your accessories...and more!

Over 100 people have already completed my Closet Cleanout Course, and I love getting emails about how much they loved it!

For more information about my online Closet Cleanout Course and to sign up, hit the link in my bio!

This is going to be fun!

How do you know what *your* style is?
Read below.
What I love the most is that style, your style, is customizable and as fluid as you want it to be. It can change with your moods, or be a constant & consistent line through the years.

It's a choice, an option, and an opportunity.

Style means that you can try everything without having to commit to anything! (That's why it's called "trying on")

It's an extension of how you want to feel about yourself. An extension of your story. An extension of how you want others to know you.

How do you know what your true style is? Do these 3 simple steps :

1. Write down 3-5 words to describe how you currently dress (this is your current style).

2. Now write down 3-5 words to describe how you'd like others to describe the way you dress (this is the style you'd like).

3. Next, go make sure what you have in your closet, and anything you may purchase, suits the descriptive words that you want your style to be.

Fashion versus Style. Which sounds best?

I'd love to hear the words you'd love to use to describe the style you'd like. Comment below.

Save this post for the next time you're shopping and need that kick in the pants to ensure you don't buy another boring cotton tee, or oversized sweater, or baggy joggers, or cheap leggings. (Maybe I should have added a T.A. here 😀)
