We have now entered the YYC Hot Chocolate Festival 4 times under our own name. Last year we entered and also let another company use our mix and decorations we made for them.

Here are the results:

2013 Winner. Best Hot Chocolate. "OMG Drinking Chocolate"

2024 Winner. Most Creative Drink. (Telus Spark Used our OMG drinking chocolate mix and we made all of the decorations on the tops of their drinks with our chocolate.

Sunday Funday!

What if I told you each of these YUMMY pancakes (I know they're yummy because I ate them after the photo was taken) tastes almost exactly like a traditional pancake with flour, BUT.... has no flour, and instead, a whopping 33g of protein per pancake?

There is literally 100g of protein on that plate!

I had some customers come in this afternoon and I let them sample some without letting them know they were protein pancakes. Their answers were "Okay... They are fluffy pancakes. So what?"

That was the EXACT answer I was looking for! They had noooo idea....

Fat Elvis and Christmoose - A story of chocolate and friends.

It's down to the last couple of shopping days before Christmas, bringing to a close the busiest season of the year in the chocolate industry.

Two years ago it was hell. Last year was a grind. This year was a lot of fun and smiles.

Through it all, the amazing woman standing beside me in this photo was there in the trenches with me every. single. day. Many days were really bad. A lot were really hard. The last few weeks it's been fun again.

Choklat would not be here today if it weren't for Trish taking on the administrative, accounting, and regulatory tasks needed, filtering calls from collectors and letting me focus on relaunching our brand and developing new and exciting products.

I may be the creative genius behind Choklat, but my best friend kept it alive, and is more to thank for all of your Choklat goodies today than me.

Last night before we closed, I got a call. It was 1985 and it wanted fudge back.

Fudge is one of those products that's usually a disappointing "miss" on the "hit and miss" scale. SO many times I've had fudge that is essentially a grainy, fake tasting block of sugar because the person making it cooked it too long and used artificial flavouring. In the food world this is called a "super saturated sugar" solution in which the sugar is not allowed to crystalize (but it usually does).

OUR FUDGE IS NOT LIKE THAT BECAUSE OURS IS MADE WITH CHOCOLATE - NOT SUGAR.

It is dense, silky smooth, rich and everything that a fudge is "supposed" to be. In fact of all the recipes I've created over the years, our fudges are the ones I'm most proud of.

WAIT... WHAT!? HERSHEYS CHIPITS AT CHOKLAT???

Yuuup! I pray the chocolate gods don't strike me down with a bolt of lightning!

When I was a little kid my Mom let me make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Some of you may have heard me tell the story about how she used that experience to babysit me while she had an afternoon nap!

This recipe is a comfort food for me, and as much as I hate to say it, chipits "bring it home".

Today I one of myteam members in doing some personal Christmas baking, and I was showing her how to bake cookies, macaroons, and cinnamon buns (for a cut of the results of course).

This just goes to show that there's a time and a place for everything. ....even chipits!

And yes this is a new ugly shirt!

Does anybody remember 10 Degrees Chocolate? They tried copying everything I did. Gutted except for the kitchen and cooler. Now it's a very brighly lit Indie nightclub. Meet Daneeka. She's a rockstar here at Choklat and has stuck it out with us through the worst of times. Gotta love that smile!

16 years ago today, Choklat opened in a tiny little shop down in Inglewood. What started as a social experiment for me has since turned into a delicious journey that has put smiles on the faces of 100's of thousands of people all over the world. I have to confess. Today's reflection elicits mixed emotions. As I am sure happens with any entrepreneurial venture there are struggles, sacrifices, and celebrations. Choklat is no different I guess. Knowing what I know now, would I do things different? Absolutely. However the one thing that keeps me coming back day in and day out, is the joy I get to see in the faces of my customers when they try my creations, or how big a child's eyes get when I top their hot chocolate with blue whipped cream and cool sprinkles. That feeling is hard to beat. Happy Birthday Choklat! I think I'll stick around for a few more years. Please feel free to share some of YOUR favourite Choklat experiences.
